West Ham United agree deal to sign Callum Wilson
Graham Potter’s West Ham United have an agreement in place to sign former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson.
According to David Ornstein, Callum Wilson is all set to continue in the Premier League as West Ham United have reached an agreement to sign him for the upcoming season. The veteran striker who became a free agent after his deal at Newcastle ran out will now be leading the line for Graham Potter’s team.
Wilson joined the Magpies back in 2020, and during his five-year-long stint at the club, he was involved in a total of 130 matches and ended up contributing towards 60 goals. While he was a regular starter in the initial years, the arrival of Alexander Isak saw him go down the pecking order.
The 2024/25 season didn’t really go according to plan for the 33-year-old as he struggled to stay fit. He was involved in just 22 matches and racked up less than 500 minutes. He only had one goal to his name throughout the campaign.
On the back of his struggles, the Magpies decided against handing him a new deal. As a result, he officially became a free agent at the start of last month. Despite his struggles last time out, the English striker still believes he has a lot to offer.
Wilson to feature for West Ham next season
His representatives have been looking for a new club for the 33-year-old, and they have finally found an ideal destination in West Ham United. Potter’s team lack depth in the final third, with Niclas Fullkrug the only out-and-out number nine in their squad.
The Hammers want someone who can support as well as cover for the German forward. They consider Wilson an ideal fit for the role, given the wealth of experience he has of playing in the top flight. He was featured in a total of 239 Premier League fixtures and has 88 goals and 25 assists.
While age is certainly catching up to him, he could still prove to be an ideal option to have on the bench. The Hammers have already agreed a deal to sign him. He will be joining them on a one-year deal with a salary that is heavily incentive-based, and his medical is already complete.
