Newcastle United secure broad agreement with Benjamin Sesko

Newcastle United leapfrog Manchester United in the race to sign RB Leipzig attacking mainstay Benjamin Sesko.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Newcastle United seem to have taken the lead in the race for Benjamin Sesko’s signature. The Magpies have increased their offer and received the green light from the player to proceed with the move.

Sesko hasn’t looked back since joining RB Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2023. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe.

The 22-year-old Slovenian international was involved in a total of 45 matches last season, and he finished with 21 goals and six assists. His sensational performances have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Manchester United are working hard to sign him this summer. While he still has four years left on his deal at Leipzig, Sesko is ready to take the next step in his career, and the German club will also sanction his departure if they receive a decent offer.

The Manchester-based giants are looking for a new number nine as Ruben Amorim wants a proven goal scorer to lead his attack next season. Sesko is quite high on their wishlist, and they have been working on a potential deal for weeks.

Newcastle front-runners to sign Sesko

While United remain keen on his signature, they haven’t made any concrete moves just yet. It has given Newcastle United the opportunity to take the lead. The Magpies are looking to bring in a world-class striker amidst uncertainty around Alexander Isak’s future.

The Swedish international has asked to leave the club, amidst interest from rivals Liverpool. They consider Sesko an ideal replacement and have stepped up their efforts of late. They have significantly increased the personal terms offer and have secured the green light from the player.

Now, they are focused on striking a deal with Leipzig, who want around €90 million to let go of their star striker. While the Magpies have taken the lead in the race, United are still in the mix and could turn the tide in the coming days.
