Inter Milan in contact to sign Christopher Nkunku
European giants Inter Milan are in contact to sign Chelsea misfit Christopher Nkunku ahead of the new season.
According to a report from L’Equipe, Inter Milan are in talks with Christopher Nkunku’s representatives as they look to sign the Chelsea attacker this summer. The French international is not a guaranteed starter under Enzo Maresca and is considering leaving the club in search of a more prominent role.
While things didn’t work out for Nkunku at PSG, he made the most out of his move to German giants RB Leipzig. On the back of his exceptional performances for the Bundesliga club, he secured a big-money move to Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
Nkunku’s time at Stamford Bridge
The Blues had a lot of expectations from the 27-year-old, but things didn’t go according to plan as he missed the majority of his debut season because of a serious injury. His absence gave other players the opportunity to cement their spot in the team.
While he was available for the majority of the 2024/25 season, Nkunku failed to establish himself as one of their mainstays. He was involved in a total of 48 matches but racked up just over 2,300 minutes of first-team action as he was more of a backup option under Maresca.
Despite contributing towards 20 goals, the 27-year-old could not force his way into Maresca’s starting XI. He only had 910 minutes of Premier League action last season. While he still has four years left on his deal, Nkunku is considering leaving Stamford Bridge as he wants a more prominent role.
Maresca has held talks with the players. While he can’t guarantee him a regular starting role, the Italian manager won’t mind having someone of his quality in his squad. However, with the World Cup coming up in 12 months, the French forward doesn’t want to settle for a rotation role.
Inter Milan in talks to sign Nkunku
As a result, his representatives have been working hard to find him a new club. They recently knocked on Inter Milan’s door and offered them the opportunity to sign the PSG graduate. The Italian giants certainly look very interested in him as they seek more quality in the final third.
Nkunku’s ability to feature anywhere in attack could come in handy. As a result, Inter Milan’s management have been in talks with his agents in recent days. They are looking to determine the terms of a possible move this summer.
