Atletico Madrid prepare €80 million package to sign Cristian Romero
Atletico Madrid are ready to make an €80 million bid, including add-ons for key defensive target Cristian Romero, which could be their final offer.
According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are prepared to test Tottenham’s resolve for Cristian Romero with a new bid. The Spanish giants could make one last attempt for the Argentine defender by offering €70 million plus €10 million in add-ons, with Spurs angling for €80 million fixed.
Tottenham remain hopeful of keeping key defender Cristian Romero beyond the summer window and even persuade him to sign on fresh terms. The defender was instrumental in their Europa League Final win over Manchester United and even earned the Man of the Match accolade in that game.
The result meant that Tottenham will play Champions League football this season, and while reports were stating the defender wanted to leave, Daniel Levy remains hopeful. On Spurs’ part, they had reportedly rejected an earlier bid from Atletico Madrid, which did not come close to their valuation of the defender.
Diego Simeone was taking a personal interest in taking Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid, as he feels the defender will be ideal for his system. While the World Cup winner looked closer to joining the Spanish side, things have slowed down in the past few weeks in the chase.
Atletico Madrid had abandoned the chase following Tottenham’s rejection of their initial approach. However, the Spaniards are ready to re-enter the conversation by making a fresh bid for the Tottenham mainstay in the region of €80 million, including add-ons.
Atletico Madrid preparing an €80 million bid
Atletico Madrid are ready to substantially improve on their initial offering for the €80 million-rated Tottenham mainstay. Simeone’s side are preparing a €70 million offer plus €10 million in add-ons, although Spurs seek €80 million fixed.
Real Madrid are also contemplating an offer in a similar range, but it appears Atletico Madrid have done quite a lot of groundwork on Cristian Romero. Should they come up with the reported offer, it would get them much closer to signing the Argentine defender, although the offer does not guarantee success, given how notorious Tottenham are when it comes to negotiating for their player.
