Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Ronald Araujo

Tottenham are keen to explore a move for Ronald Araujo, with the Barcelona defender considering his future amid competition for places.

According to Fichajes, Ronald Araujo’s Barcelona future could be in jeopardy, as the defender could potentially consider his options in this window. The Uruguayan has some suitors from the Premier League, with Tottenham the latest keen on exploring a potential move for the centre-back.

Tottenham are yet to kick into gear with their transfer activity, despite signing Mohammed Kudus early in the window. Spurs are now under the management of Thomas Frank, and the new boss wants key reinforcements in place for the upcoming campaign, where Spurs will also have Champions League football.

Spurs are closing in on Joao Palhinha as their latest signing, with the midfielder coming to the club on a season-long loan deal from Bayern Munich. The next phase will see Tottenham look for defensive options, as they are a bit short in numbers and quality in the central areas of their backline.

A few names are being linked, including Illia Zabarnyi, with Spurs willing to make a big offer. However, the Ukrainian wants to join PSG, with the Parisians certainly inching closer to getting their man. Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke is another name on Tottenham’s list, and now, they have added 26-year-old Barcelona star Ronald Araujo too.

Araujo was once a mainstay in the Barcelona side, but since the arrival of Hansi Flick last season, his time on the pitch has reduced considerably. The German boss does not view the 26-year-old as his main defensive starter, which could force the Uruguayan to consider his options in the time remaining in the window.

Tottenham could explore Roland Araujo move

Tottenham are eager to explore a move for the Uruguayan and test what Barcelona may want for the defender. Araujo only signed a new deal until 2031 back in January, which could see the Catalans cash in on him as they are unlikely to let the defender leave on a discount.

Earlier reports stated Barcelona could demand as much as €60 million to sell the defender, and that sort of money will be beneficial for the club amid their ongoing financial issues. The defender is still expected to understand his role moving forward, and should he not get what he desires, Spurs are probably waiting in the wings to offer him regular game time and a prominent role in their defence.
