Liverpool do not plan to return with an improved offer for Alexander Isak
Arne Slot’s Liverpool will not return for Alexander Isak after Newcastle United rejected their opening bid worth £110 million.
According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool have made a decision with regard to their pursuit of Alexander Isak after Newcastle United rejected their £110 million offer. The Reds have no intentions of returning with an improved offer in the ongoing transfer window.
Isak has been on the Merseyside club’s radar since the start of the transfer window. While they did knock on Newcastle’s door at the start of the summer, the Magpies had no intentions of selling their star. As a result, they shifted their focus to Hugo Ekitike and ended up signing the French striker.
Despite acquiring the services of the 23-year-old forward, the Reds continued to monitor the Swedish international’s situation at the Tyneside club as he looked unsettled. Isak recently handed in a transfer request, which rocked everyone at St James’ Park and opened the door for a potential move to Liverpool.
The player is keen on making the switch to Anfield this summer, and he is no longer training with the Magpies. While he is trying to force his way out, the Magies are still trying hard to hold onto their star striker.
Liverpool’s opening bid turned down
Since personal terms with Isak have already been agreed, Liverpool went ahead and submitted an opening bid worth £110 million. While it is a massive offer, the Magpies turned it down straightaway without any counter-offers.
The manner in which the Tyneside club have rebuffed the offer suggests they are not willing to negotiate his departure despite the player’s desire. As a result, the Reds have decided they won’t return with an improved offer this summer.
Eddie Howe’s team reluctant to sell Isak
The Merseyside club have no plans to bid again unless Newcastle change their stance and contacts them, which seems unlikely. They will only think about signing the Swedish star if they receive some encouragement from Eddie Howe’s team.
It is certainly a blow for the Reds as the Magpies didn’t even hint that any fee could help them land the former Real Sociedad star. While Isak continues to push for a move away, Newcastle are working hard to ensure he pens a new long-term deal.
It is a complicated situation, but things could change if the Magpies end up signing a world-class striker in the coming weeks. They are keen on adding Benjamin Sesko to their squad but face significant competition from Manchester United.
