Girona closing in on signing Claudio Echeverri, Vitor Reis on loan
Girona are close to sealing a double loan deal for Manchester City teenage duo Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis to aid their development.
According to Fichajes, Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis are on the verge of joining Girona on loan for the upcoming season. The Spanish side are close to sealing a double loan deal for the Manchester City teenage duo, as the plan is to give the young stars regular game time to aid their development.
Manchester City have two tremendous teenage talents whom they want to develop for the future. South American pair Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis are part of the club’s long-term planning, although in the current phase, they need to adapt to European football and get regular minutes under their belt.
La Liga side Girona, who have a shared ownership with Manchester City and are under the same umbrella group, will help the Premier League side to develop their players. The two clubs have been involved in some promising ventures in the past, namely the development and the subsequent sale of Brazilian winger Savinho.
Now, Girona are on the verge of taking two promising teenagers from Manchester City on loan. Argentine playmaker Claudio Echeverri and Brazilian defender Vitor Reis are close to joining the Spanish side for the upcoming season on loan and aid their development.
Reis has been eyeing a loan exit from Manchester City owing to a lack of game time since joining the club. The teenage defender has only made four appearances for the club since joining in January 2025 – two starts in the FA Cup, one start in the Club World Cup and a brief cameo in the Premier League last season.
Claudio Echeverri courted other suitors
Girona is probably Manchester City’s choice to send Echeverri on loan for the upcoming season; however, the teenage playmaker also courted other suitors. AS Roma were interested in taking the Brazilian on loan, while fellow Italian side Como were also interested and they had made an approach, although it is unclear whether it was for a loan or a permanent transfer.
The young playmaker originally signed for the Premier League giants back in January 2024, but re-joined River Plate on a year-long loan until January 2025. However, since being integrated into Pep Guardiola’s side, he has made three appearances – two as a substitute in the Premier League and FA Cup, and one start in the Club World Cup.
