Chelsea close to securing verbal agreement to sign Xavi Simons, official offer coming
Chelsea could be inching closer to a verbal agreement for Xavi Simons, with an official bid set to follow for the Dutch international.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea are inching closer to a verbal agreement for Xavi Simons, as an official bid could follow soon for the Dutch international. The deal is very much expected to go through, but a few sales might be required before the Blues can take it over the line.
Xavi Simons remains one of the top talents available for a transfer in this window. The Dutch international is closer to leaving RB Leipzig, as was the plan when he signed for them permanently back in the January window from PSG.
Chelsea are the closest to acquiring the player, who also has reportedly agreed on personal terms with the club over a move. The Blues had a flurry of transfer activity before and during the CWC, as the likes of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens arrived, in what seemed like an attack-minded approach from the London side.
Noni Madueke has departed, and Nicolas Jackson can leave. Surprisingly, Chelsea have since chased Simons as their next big target for this window, as they had advanced for the Dutchman as well as his compatriot Jorrel Hato. The latter has already signed with the club, and now, the Blues might be closing in on the RB Leipzig man.
Chelsea are getting close to a verbal agreement for Simons, as a formal bid could follow soon. The wider expectation suggests the Blues will complete the deal for the 22-year-old playmaker, as they are keen to further bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.
Xavi Simons arrival might depend on sales
Florian Plettenberg insists that Simons’ arrival might depend on a few sales, although that may not be a deal breaker. The possible indication might be towards Jackson as the potential outgoing, with Chelsea ready to consider offers for the Senegalese striker.
Moreover, Plettenberg also reiterated the fact that Chelsea are still interested in Alejandro Garnacho, as some may view the Argentine and Simons as players of a similar profile. However, the journalist insists the two deals are separate, with Chelsea aiming to complete both at different stages of this transfer window.
