Yoane Wissa forcing Brentford exit, Newcastle United remain in active talks
Yoane Wissa is forcing a move out of Brentford as Newcastle United continues to circle the striker for his signature.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Yoane Wissa continued to miss training as he forces a move away from Brentford. The striker is eager to sign for a new club playing in the Champions League, as Newcastle United continued to circle for his signature.
The Alexander Isak saga has dominated headlines for the best part of a week now, and there’s no clear outcome in sight. There’s another issue, about Newcastle United, as Yoanne Wissa continues to force a move away from Brentford as he seeks an exit this summer.
Wissa is refusing to play for Brentford again, and over the last few days he has not appeared in training for many days now. It appears Wissa had been at the Brentford training grounds on Thursday, but returned as he probably held further talks with the new Bees boss.
Wissa wants to join a new club that features in the Champions League, as currently his options are limited, but credible. Newcastle United have already seen a bid rejected by Brentford, who are in a position of power given they have an option to extend the striker’s contract from his 2026 expiry to 2027.
The Congo striker scored or assisted 25 times across all competitions, with 24 of those coming in the Premier League alone. As Brentford successfully negotiated a deal to sell Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, they are aiming to maximise the sale of Wissa should they choose to sell eventually.
Newcastle United are keen on Yoane Wissa
The Magpies have already failed with a bid, and could make an improved offer once certain things in the background become clearer. While they are in active talks with the Bees, any move is complicated as there needs to be further clarity on how Newcastle United views Wissa. While there’s a chance of selling Isak to Liverpool, they could view Wissa either as a replacement for the Swede or as an additional striker.
From Fabrizio Romano’s post, some might deduce the idea that Newcastle United may view Wissa as an additional striker to improve their depth up front. Hence, should Isak leave, they might bring in Benjamin Sesko as the Swede’s replacement, with the 25 G/A Premier League striker from Brentford likely seen as a competitor for the No.9 role.
