West Ham United in contact over Roberto Piccoli move

Graham Potter’s West Ham United are making moves to sign Cagliari attacking sensation Roberto Piccoli.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via SportWitness, West Ham United have knocked on the doors of Cagliari as they look to sign Roberto Piccoli ahead of the new season. While there are other top clubs that are interested in him, the Hammers are believed to be front-runners at this stage.

Piccoli came up the ranks at Atalanta. While he did get promoted to their first team back in 2020, he never got an opportunity to make his senior debut. The 24-year-old striker has spent the majority of his time out on loan.

He spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Cagliari. The young Italian striker was involved in a total of 40 matches, and he ended up contributing towards 15 goals. On the back of his impressive performances, they struck a deal worth €12 million with Atalanta last month to secure his services on a permanent basis.

While his contract at Cagliari runs until the summer of 2029, he could end up leaving them this summer, just a month after finalising a permanent move. West Ham United are one of the clubs that are interested in his services, and they made initial contact with the player in the recent past.

West Ham are front-runners to sign Piccoli

Reports earlier suggested that they were set to face competition from Benfica. However, it seems the Hammers have taken the lead in the race for his signature. They once again made contact on Wednesday as they explored his situation further.

Potter is desperate to have more firepower in the final third, with Niclas Fullkrug the only out-and-out striker in his squad. Piccoli seems to have a bright future, and West Ham are willing to invest in him.

While Cagliari have just secured his services on a permanent basis, they are ready to negotiate his departure and have set an asking price of €30 million. The price tag is believed to be a major hurdle for the majority of the clubs that are interested in him. However, it won’t trouble the Hammers, who are believed to be ready to pay around €25 million.
