Son Heung-min closing in on joining LAFC

Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-min is close to joining Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles FC.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Los Angeles FC are closing in on the signature of Son Heung-min. The Tottenham skipper is on the lookout for a new challenge in the final phase of his career, and he seems keen on making the switch to Major League Soccer.

Son made a name for himself at Bayer Leverkusen before joining the North London club in the summer of 2015. He went from strength to strength and became one of their mainstays in no time. While Spurs were not their best last season, the South Korean international was still one of their standout performers.

The 33-year-old finished with 11 goals and 12 assists in his 46 outings and led them to their first-ever major title (Europa League) in 17 years. While he still has a year left on his deal at Tottenham and new manager Thomas Frank is more than happy to have him around, Son seems keen on trying a new challenge.

As a sign of respect for what he has done for the club, Spurs are ready to let him leave and have placed a modest asking price of €25 million. While clubs from the Middle East are keen on his signature, Son is more interested in a move to America.

Son is set to join Los Angeles FC?

MLS club Los Angeles FC are keen on having him in their squad. They want him to be a marquee signing for the summer and have been working on a potential transfer for some time. They are in advanced negotiations to secure his services in the near future.

Talks have progressed significantly in recent days, and LAFC are now entering a critical phase of discussion with both the player and the Premier League club. With him available for a modest fee, LAFC are pushing ahead to wrap up what would be one of the most high-profile signings in the club’s history.

The transfer is expected to go through after Tottenham’s upcoming friendly against Newcastle in Seoul on August 2. The North London club have planned significant commercial events in South Korea surrounding this fixture, and Son is an integral part from a marketing standpoint. As a result, they would only let him go after this fixture is done and dusted.
