Manchester United enter race for Lucien Agoume

Manchester United are interested in Lucien Agoume as a midfield option this summer, as an approach could be on the cards.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United are reportedly interested in Lucien Agoume as a potential midfield option this summer. The Frenchman has had admirers following some impressive performances for Sevilla, as Rbuen Amorim’s side could ponder making an approach at some stage in the window.

Manchester United are very much active in the market for signings that would improve their first-team squad. Without European football, Ruben Amorim is focused on trimming the current number, but are also alert to the possibility of strengthening specific areas that need improving.

While there’s media focus on the striker search, Manchester United are also in need of a central midfielder to control games. There have been conversations about a few options, including Galatasaray’s Gabriel Sara, while Morten Hjulmand had also emerged as a key target.

Manchester United fear losing out on Hjulmand, largely due to Sporting CP’s demands, which could have seen them pivot to other targets. Back in January, they were interested in Lucien Agoume, with the Sevilla midfielder certainly seen as someone who could fill in the void in Amorim’s midfield.

Agoume had Arsenal’s interest earlier in the window when they were looking to replace Thomas Partey. The Gunners went ahead with signing the experienced Christian Norgaard, and now it appears, Manchester United are angling for a move for the 23-year-old La Liga midfielder.

Is Lucien Agoume a good fit for Manchester United?

Agoume has good enough experience of top-flight football with Sevilla, and may not be averse to a switch to the Premier League. Any move away from Sevilla might depend on his asking price, although the demands are expected to be significantly lower than what Sporting CP wanted for Hjulmand.

Now, whether the 23-year-old La Liga midfielder fits into Manchester United’s system, as his ability to control the midfield might prove crucial. While Sevilla have not received any official approach yet, there’s a chance the Red Devils might show concrete interest and take the next steps later in the window. Probably once they can resolve their striker search.
