Joao Palhinha pushing for Tottenham move, Spurs set for fresh talks with Bayern Munich
Joao Palhinha is open to joining Tottenham this summer in search of regular football, as talks with Bayern Munich have been ongoing over a loan deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are in talks with Bayern Munich for over two weeks and are discussing a potential move. The midfielder is open to joining Spurs in search of regular game time, as the north Londoners are angling for an initial loan move for the Portuguese midfielder.
Joao Palhinha caught the attention of many top teams with his performances for Fulham in a brief two-year stay at Craven Cottage. The midfielder’s key displays for Marco Silva’s side earned him a big career move to Bayern Munich last summer, but the 2024 arrival has not worked out as much as the Bavarians would have liked.
Having started only six games from the 17 he featured for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, Vincent Kompany may not count on him in his plans moving forward. Hence, Bayern Munich might be open to offers, with Palhinha himself open to the idea of returning to London.
Fulham had eyed a loan move for the midfielder, but things on that front have cooled down in the last week or so. However, it is another London side who are showing massive interest, with Tottenham already in talks with Bayern Munich over a deal, which has been ongoing for the last two weeks.
Having planned a bid for the midfielder earlier, Spurs are now leaning towards an initial loan deal. They are discussing the terms with Bayern, with Palhinha seemingly open to joining Tottenham in search of regular football ahead of a crucial season where the World Cup is on the horizon.
Joao Palhinha will improve Tottenham
Spurs already have good relations with Bayern Munich due to their recent deal to sign Mathys Tel. They could, in theory, bring the midfielder on loan with a buy option, as the Portuguese star could prove to be an essential signing for new boss Thomas Frank.
Frank wants a midfield enforcer to adapt his system at Spurs, and he was earlier interested in Christian Norgaard before his move to Arsenal from Brentford. Palhinha will bring in massive experience and a profile that Tottenham currently lacks, as the club’s supporters will hope to see this deal over the line before the new season begins.
