Chelsea, Tottenham links with Timothy Weah denied

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly not been in contact over a possible move for 25-year-old Juventus winger Timothy Weah in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Sport Witness, “a source close to the player’s situation” has revealed that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have not been in contact over a move for Timothy Weah in the summer transfer window. Recent updates have suggested that the two London clubs have faced a rejection from the 25-year-old Juventus wide player.

However, that is not the case, and it might have been a tactic to raise Weah’s price tag amid his links with Marseille. With the New York City native keen on joining the Ligue 1 giants from Juventus in the summer transfer window, a possible ploy to increase his valuation is understandable.

Timothy Weah and his situation

Timothy Weah has come leaps and bounds since joining Juventus from LOSC Lille in July 2023. While the New York City native has not been an undisputed first-choice starter for the Bianconeri, he was instrumental in the club’s return to the top four in Serie A in the 2024/25 season. The 25-year-old has turned out 78 times thus far for Juventus while chipping in with seven goals and seven assists.

Meanwhile, Weah’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, have been keen on signing the USMNT international, with reports suggesting he has been a target for Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. However, the update by Sport Witness has rubbished suggestions that the two London clubs have faced rejection from Weah.

What next?

Chelsea may be infamous for hoarding talent unnecessarily, but the Blues do not need another wide player heading into the 2025/26 season. The FIFA Club World Cup winners have signed Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, and they may land Alejandro Garnacho. So, Weah is not an option worth considering for Chelsea.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, recent reports have suggested that the Lilywhites are interested in Weah. However, the update by Sport Witness has claimed that the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners have not been in contact over a summer move. While Richarlison and Son Heung-min face an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Weah may not be a target for the North London outfit.

Marseille will look to beat the competition to Weah’s signature and aim to bring the 25-year-old winger back to Ligue 1 in the summer transfer window. The USMNT international is also keen on the sealing the deal, and the potential tactics to raise his price may have backfired, with Chelsea and Tottenham not in contact over a possible move.
