Alexander Isak verbally agrees six-year contract with Liverpool
Liverpool are closing in on Alexander Isak’s signature, having reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with the Newcastle star.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Alexander Isak has already reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool. Personal terms have been settled on a contract running until the summer of 2031, and he is expected to earn wages similar to those of Hugo Ekitike.
Isak hasn’t looked back since joining Newcastle in the summer of 2022 from Real Sociedad. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
His impressive performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs, with Liverpool being the most serious about securing his services. The Reds did enquire about him earlier in the summer, but the Magpies were reluctant to sell.
As a result, they shifted their entire focus to signing Ekitike. While they have added the 23-year-old French forward to their squad, the Merseyside club still remain keen on signing Isak. With the Swedish international handing in a transfer request, Liverpool have already stepped up their pursuit.
Isak could soon make the move to Merseyside
Arne Slot’s team have spent a fortune on player transfers this summer, but they are still willing to make a major outlay to add Isak to their squad. With Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliott expected to be the moves, they are hoping to have enough funds to get a deal over the line.
While they are yet to agree on a fee with Newcastle, they are certainly closing in on Isak’s signature, having reached a verbal agreement in principle with the 25-year-old. The former Real Sociedad star is keen on joining the Reds and has agreed to pen a six-year deal that will run until 2031 and see him earn similar wages to Ekitike.
Isak will certainly bolster Liverpool’s attack, and since they have already added the French forward and Florian Wirtz to their squad, the Reds seem set to challenge for all major titles next season.
