West Ham United submit offer to sign Nelson Deossa
West Ham United wanted to sign 25-year-old Colombian midfielder Nelson Deossa from CF Monterrey, but he will join Real Betis in the summer transfer window.
According to an update by Willie Gonzalez via Medio Tiempo, Nelson Deossa is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old CF Monterrey midfielder has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.
The Hammers have intensified their efforts to sign the South American midfielder by submitting a bid worth $13 million to CF Monterrey. However, West Ham will lose the battle for Deossa’s signature, with a report by AS revealing that he is on the verge of joining La Liga club Real Betis in a deal worth $17 million, with the move “all but done”.
Who is Nelson Deossa?
Nelson Deossa has come leaps and bounds since joining CF Monterrey from CF Pachuca earlier this year. The Marmato native spent his formative years in Colombia and graduated from the youth division at Atletico Huila. However, he has risen in prominence since moving to Mexico 18 months ago, having represented CF Pachuca and CF Monterrey.
The Colombian midfielder has turned out 29 times thus far for CF Monterrey while chipping in with seven goals and one assist. Deossa was also impressive during the FIFA Club World Cup, scoring once in four outings. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, including West Ham United.
What next?
West Ham United’s interest in Nelson Deossa makes sense. The Hammers are scouring the market for a midfielder this summer, as Carlos Soler has returned to Paris Saint-Germain after a dreadful 2024/25 campaign. In addition, Edson Alvarez, Guido Rodriguez, Tomas Soucek, and James Ward-Prowse face an uncertain future at West Ham.
Several candidates, including Fabio Vieira, have emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Deossa also a viable target for the East London club. The Hammers have ramped up their efforts to sign the CF Monterrey midfielder, submitting a bid worth $13 million to the Mexican club.
However, Real Betis will beat West Ham to Deossa’s signature, as they have struck an agreement over a deal worth $17 million, with the move “all but done”. So, West Ham must look elsewhere for a new midfielder, although the Hammers have several options on their wishlist.
