Manchester United make approach for Pietro Comuzzo
Manchester United are reportedly keen to beat off competition for Fiorentina defensive prospect Pietro Comuzzo.
Manchester United have joined the growing list of clubs monitoring Fiorentina’s promising young centre-back Pietro Comuzzo, according to multiple reports from Italy. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season with La Viola, making a name for himself as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in Serie A.
While a January move to Napoli nearly materialised, Comuzzo ultimately remained at the Artemio Franchi, continuing to solidify his place in Fiorentina’s setup. Now, with the 2024/25 campaign behind him, Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, and Sunderland, have reportedly expressed concrete interest in securing his services.
Pre-season encounter could spark talks
Italian outlet La Repubblica has reported that discussions regarding Comuzzo could advance when Manchester United meet Fiorentina in a pre-season friendly on August 9. The timing of the fixture has presented an opportune moment for behind-the-scenes negotiations, should Manchester United wish to formalise their interest.
Although Fiorentina are under no pressure to sell, with Comuzzo’s contract running until 2029 and an option to extend, offers in the region of €30 million or more could test the club’s resolve. Other European sides such as RB Leipzig and AC Milan are also reportedly keeping tabs on the defender, adding to the competitive atmosphere surrounding his future.
Pietro Comuzzo unlikely to force a move
Despite the mounting speculation, there is little indication that Comuzzo is actively pushing for a transfer. The young Italian is said to be content with life in Florence and remains committed to Fiorentina’s project. His long-term contract only strengthens the club’s bargaining position, allowing them to dictate terms and timelines if serious bids arrive.
Interestingly, some media voices in Italy suggest that the current wave of transfer chatter may be more reflective of the club’s desire to build hype around the player than of any imminent move. While interest from clubs like Manchester United and Forest is plausible, there is a degree of scepticism regarding whether formal offers will truly emerge in the coming weeks.
Manchester United’s scouting network has often been praised for identifying young continental talent, and Comuzzo fits that mould. But with the club already facing major decisions at the heart of the defence, including potential outgoings and the integration of academy prospects, a €30 million move for an unproven Serie A youngster may not be the most urgent play.
That said, Comuzzo’s maturity, positional awareness, and composure make him a name worth watching. Even if United don’t strike now, they’d be wise to keep him on their radar. For Fiorentina, this summer could be the start of a long line of suitors, and they hold all the cards.
