Liverpool eyeing Antonio Nusa as Luis Diaz replacement

Liverpool could move for Antonio Nusa to fill the Luis Diaz-sized hole at Anfield in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are already making moves in the transfer market to cover the loss of Luis Diaz, who is on the verge of sealing a transfer to Bayern Munich. The Colombian winger’s departure has left a notable gap in Arne Slot’s attacking lineup, and the Reds are keen to fill that void with a suitable replacement. Three potential candidates have emerged on the club’s radar: Rodrygo Goes, Antonio Nusa, and Malick Fofana.

The primary target remains Rodrygo Goes

The big favourite to take Diaz’s place is Rodrygo Goes, the dynamic forward from Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team. Rodrygo brings experience from major competitions and has the versatility to play across the attacking front, fitting well into Arne Slot’s tactical setup. His ability to operate in different attacking positions makes him a perfect fit for Liverpool’s high-pressing and fast-paced style of play.

However, the deal for Rodrygo isn’t expected to be straightforward. While Real Madrid has not completely ruled out his sale, the Brazilian’s high valuation could be a stumbling block. As of now, Liverpool has yet to present a formal offer that would convince the Spanish giants to part with their prized asset.

Antonio Nusa among the alternatives

If the Rodrygo move becomes too complicated, Liverpool have two more affordable alternatives: Malick Fofana and Antonio Nusa.

Fofana, a Belgian winger, has shown significant promise at Lyon, but the real buzz surrounds Antonio Nusa. The 20-year-old Norwegian forward, recently snapped up by RB Leipzig, has been described as ‘unstoppable’ by Breaking The Lines after an impressive 2024/2025 season. Nusa has quickly caught the attention of top clubs, and Liverpool are, according to Fichajes,  looking to secure his services as a more cost-effective option.

While Leipzig’s asking price could reach £40 million for Nusa, this price tag is still more palatable than Rodrygo’s, and it represents a good opportunity for Liverpool to invest in a promising young talent. The Reds are aware that they need to act swiftly to avoid a bidding war for the Norwegian, especially since Newcastle United have already shown interest in Nusa .

With Diaz’s departure looking all but finalised, Liverpool’s priority is clear: replacing the winger with someone who fits Slot’s vision. This season, the Reds are looking to build on their title ambitions, and securing a strong addition to the squad is vital. Liverpool’s quick decision-making will be key in securing a player who can seamlessly slot into the team’s high-intensity attacking system.

While Rodrygo remains the dream target, Nusa offers exciting potential at a more manageable cost. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Liverpool can land the right winger to bolster their title push for the 2025/26 campaign.
