Tottenham rival Manchester United, Newcastle United in Aleksandar Mitrovic chase
Tottenham Hotspur will compete with Manchester United and Newcastle United to sign 30-year-old Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic from Al-Hilal this summer.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Aleksandar Mitrovic is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a striker this summer, and they have set their sights on the Al-Hilal centre-forward. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old is also a target for Manchester United and Newcastle United, with the Saudi Pro League outfit demanding €30 million to part ways with him.
Aleksandar Mitrovic and his Serbian adventure
Aleksandar Mitrovic has been a revelation in the Saudi Pro League since joining Al-Hilal from Fulham in a surprise move in August 2023. The Serb has come leaps and bounds in the last two years, having been a productive performer for his side. The experienced striker has amassed 68 goals and 15 assists in 79 appearances across all competitions thus far for Al-Hilal.
Meanwhile, Mitrovic’s exploits for Al-Hilal have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the Serbian international, with Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
A man in demand
Manchester United’s interest in the 30-year-old striker may be perplexing. However, the Red Devils view Chido Obi-Martin as a long-term solution for their offensive unit. So, signing Mitrovic should form part of the ideal succession plan to groom the former Arsenal wonderkid as the next first-choice striker for Manchester United in the coming seasons.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s interest in Aleksandar Mitrovic is understandable. The Magpies are in a spot of bother over Alexander Isak’s long-term future amid his desire to join Liverpool. Several candidates have thus emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Mitrovic also a viable target for the Tyneside outfit.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, the Lilywhites hold a long-standing interest in Mitrovic, having pursued his signature several years ago. The continued interest makes sense, considering Dominic Solanke blew hot and cold in his debut season with Tottenham. Meanwhile, the Serb will not cost a bomb, with Al-Hilal demanding €30 million to part ways with him.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur fork out €30 million to sign Mitrovic in the summer transfer window. The opportunity to return to the Premier League at the peak of his powers may well appeal to the 30-year-old Serbian striker.
