Fenerbahce trying to steal a march on Everton, West Ham United in Douglas Luiz race
Fenerbahce will reportedly compete with Everton and West Ham United to sign 27-year-old Brazilian international Douglas Luiz from Serie A club Juventus this summer.
According to a report by French journalist Sebastien Vidal, Douglas Luiz is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce. The Turkish giants are scouring the market for a midfielder this summer and have set their sights on the Juventus misfit. They are attempting to beat Everton and West Ham United to the 27-year-old midfielder’s signature.
Douglas Luiz and his struggles
Douglas Luiz will be frustrated by the decision to move to Juventus from Aston Villa last summer. The South American midfielder pushed to join the Bianconeri to take the next step up in his career. However, his stock has plummeted in 12 months, and the latest setback has been his unwillingness to turn up for the Serie A club’s pre-season campaign.
The Brazilian international has not even managed 1,000 minutes of game time across 27 outings thus far for Juventus. However, Luiz’s stock in the market remains high, with several well-known clubs across Europe setting their sights on him. Everton, West Ham United, and Fenerbahce are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
A man in demand
The 27-year-old midfielder has been on Everton’s radar throughout this summer’s transfer window. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit in the summer transfer window after parting ways with Abdoulaye Doucoure as a free agent. In addition, Idrissa Gueye is in the twilight of his career. So, Luiz has emerged as a viable target for Everton.
Meanwhile, West Ham United’s interest in Douglas Luiz makes sense. The Hammers are scouring the market for a midfielder after Carlos Soler and Guido Rodriguez failed to make a mark in the 2024/25 season. In addition, Rodriguez, Tomas Soucek, and James Ward-Prowse face an uncertain future at West Ham. However, recent reports have claimed that the East London club will unlikely secure Luiz’s services this summer.
Meanwhile, the latest update has suggested that Fenerbahce will aim to steal a march on Everton and West Ham in the battle for Luiz’s signature. The Turkish giants have been active in the market this summer, but they want to bolster their midfield unit now. Sofyan Amrabat faces an uncertain future at Fenerbahce, and Fred is on the wrong side of 30. So, Luiz is a viable target for the Turkish Super Lig outfit.
Sebastien Vidal has suggested that Jose Mourinho wants to “lure the Juventus midfielder to Istanbul”. The Turkish giants are even ready to offer Amrabat as part of the deal to sign Luiz. It will be interesting to see if Fenerbahce can beat Everton and West Ham to the 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder’s signature in the summer transfer window.
