Reiss Nelson closing in on Fulham return as talks advance
Arsenal and Fulham have reportedly advanced talks to seal a deal for 25-year-old homegrown winger Reiss Nelson in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by David Ornstein on The Athletic, Reiss Nelson remains the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old Arsenal winger has emerged as a target after he spent the 2024/25 season with the West London outfit.
Talks between Arsenal and Fulham have advanced, and Nelson will likely return to Craven Cottage in the summer transfer window. However, it is unclear if the Englishman will rejoin the Cottagers on a loan deal or a permanent transfer. The former arrangement will include “an option to buy, which would include a significant fee”.
Reiss Nelson and his career so far
Reiss Nelson has endured a topsy-turvy ride since breaking into the first-team squad at Arsenal a few years ago. While the 25-year-old was hot off the blocks at the North London club, poor form, increasing competition for places, and fitness issues have blighted his progress. However, a loan stint with Fulham in the 2024/25 season has helped him regain confidence.
While the homegrown winger struggled with a hamstring injury in the 2024/25 season, he was impressive enough in 12 appearances to convince Fulham to re-sign him in the summer transfer window. A return to Craven Cottage in the summer transfer window may be on the cards for Nelson, with talks between Fulham and Arsenal advancing.
Move across London on the cards
Fulham’s interest in re-signing Reiss Nelson is understandable. The Cottagers have not been active in the market in the summer transfer window, with Benjamin Lecomte the only player to arrive at the West London club thus far. With the 2025/26 Premier League season only 20 days away, Fulham must kick-start the incoming business to get the squad in shape for the new campaign.
With Marco Silva being hung out to dry, the decision-makers at Fulham must ramp up their efforts to complete summer signings. Reinforcing the offensive unit is necessary, considering Nelson has returned to Arsenal after his loan spell. In addition, William’s latest spell with Fulham has also ended.
However, with talks over a deal for Nelson advancing between Fulham and Arsenal, he will return to Craven Cottage in the coming weeks. It is unclear if the Englishman will rejoin the Cottagers on a loan deal or a permanent transfer. The former arrangement will include “an option to buy, which would include a significant fee”. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 25-year-old Englishman.
