Manchester United talks to sign Emiliano Martinez stalling
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United have not made any progress in their pursuit of Aston Villa mainstay Emiliano Martinez.
According to Ole via Sport Witness, Manchester United’s pursuit of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has hit a standstill. The Red Devils have made no progress on securing the Argentine international, and they have no intention of meeting the €40 million asking price.
Martinez has not looked back since joining Aston Villa from Arsenal back in 2020. Not only has he been one of their standout performers, but the 32-year-old has also done wonders for Argentina, helping them win the World Cup and two Copa America titles.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and there is no shortage of interest in him as he seems interested in trying a new challenge in the final phase of his career. While he still has four years left on his deal at Aston Villa, Martinez has his heart set on a move away.
While multiple top clubs have been linked with Emiliano Martinez, Aston Villa are yet to receive a formal offer. Meanwhile, Manchester United are one of the clubs that hold serious interest in the World Cup winner. Ruben Amorim is not entirely pleased with Andre Onana’s performances, and they would love an upgrade in goal.
Manchester United are unlikely to sign Martinez
The Red Devils have been working on a potential transfer for Emiliano Martinez for some time, but they have not been able to make any significant progress. Their pursuit seems to have stalled as United were pushing for a loan deal, but Aston Villa have no intentions of sanctioning a temporary departure.
Unai Emery’s team want a permanent move, and they have set an asking price of €40 million. The Red Devils are not ready to fork out that big a fee on a goalkeeper at this stage, with Onana still at the club. While his departure could fund a move, that seems unlikely.
While Martinez is training with Aston Villa in the USA, he was not used in their first friendly against Hansa Rostock, which suggests he could still end up leaving. Villa have already signed Marco Bizot in an attempt to add more competition in goal. The Argentine goalkeeper’s future remains up in the air, but a move to Old Trafford might not go through.
