Liverpool sanction €75 million Luis Diaz move to Bayern Munich
Liverpool have agreed to sell Luis Diaz for €75 million, with medical tests now being planned as the Colombian is expected to fly out of Tokyo.
According to The Athletic, Bayern Munich have found an agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of Luis Diaz for €75 million. The fee includes potential add-ons for the Colombian, who is now expected to fly out of the Reds’ pre-season camp in Tokyo to undergo medical tests before completing a move.
Bayern Munich have been frustrated in their efforts to land a top-draw attacker this summer. The German giants entered the window with some level of optimism as they were viewed as one of the front runners for then-Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
The departure of Leroy Sane to Galatasaray was the key point for Bayern Munich to find a new attacker, and the Wirtz chase was not designed to replace the former. However, they lost out to Liverpool in the race for Wirtz, while also failing with their pursuit of Nico Williams, who chose to stay at Athletic Club. They were also briefly interested in RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, who now appears close to joining Chelsea.
There have been other names linked with Bayern, but in recent weeks, they have fixed their attention on Liverpool star Luis Diaz. The Merseysiders already rejected a bid worth €67.5 million, including add-ons, and while at the time, they insisted the player was not for sale, in reality, they sought the full market value for the Colombian.
Bayern Munich were expected to launch a new bid worth €75 million, and it appears Liverpool have sanctioned the sale for that price. The Bavarians have included potential add-ons as part of the package and got the deal over the line. Medical tests are planned ahead of the next days with the Colombian now set to leave the Liverpool pre-season camp in Tokyo to complete the move to the Bundesliga side.
How will Liverpool replace Luis Diaz?
The idea all along was to cash in on Diaz and bring in a younger replacement for the long-term future. Anthony Gordon is seen as an option by Liverpool, while others like Malick Fofana were briefly linked. The top target, as per multiple reports, is Rodrygo Goes, with the Real Madrid star likely to leave the Spanish giants this summer.
Overall, Liverpool have a healthy cash flow to get a big player such as Gordon or Rodrygo over the line to replace Diaz. The club are expected to move swiftly in search of a replacement as soon as the Colombian joins Bayern Munich, which would represent another big addition to their already impressive summer window.
