Chelsea demanding €250 million to sell Cole Palmer after Manchester City bid
Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer is reportedly a target for Manchester City, but the West London club want a whopping fee to consider selling him this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester City have submitted an offer worth €170 million to sign Cole Palmer, but Chelsea have knocked it back. The Blues are holding out for a fee of €250 million to sell the 23-year-old playmaker in the summer transfer window.
Palmer is one of the best attacking players in the Premier League right now, and he is undoubtedly the finest asset at Chelsea. The West London outfit simply cannot afford to lose a player of his quality if they want to fight for major trophies.
It is no surprise that Chelsea are demanding a premium for him despite receiving an otherwise appealing bid from Manchester City. It is highly unlikely that any club would pay €250 million for the England international anytime soon. There is no doubt that he is a world-class talent with a bright future, but he has not justified the price tag yet.
Chelsea have secured UEFA Champions League qualification for next season, and they have recently won a couple of trophies as well. They will look to get back to the top of English football once again and fight for the league next season.
To do that, the FIFA Club World Cup winners need to keep their best players in order for that to happen. Palmer will be crucial to their hopes of winning major trophies in the upcoming campaign. They simply cannot afford to lose him at any cost.
Manchester City could use a world-class attacker like Cole Palmer
Meanwhile, Manchester City need to improve their squad as well. With the departure of Kevin De Bruyne, they are now lacking in quality and cutting edge in the final third. Signing a versatile attacker like Cole Palmer would be ideal. The England international is not only a reliable goalscorer, he can create opportunities with his passing and vision as well.
The Manchester City academy graduate left the club to play regularly, and Chelsea have helped him develop over the last few seasons. It seems unlikely that the 23-year-old English international will push for an exit from Chelsea if Manchester City come calling in the future.
