Napoli eyeing Raheem Sterling swoop
Serie A club Napoli will reportedly look to sign 30-year-old out-of-favour English winger Raheem Sterling from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Raheem Sterling is the subject of interest from Napoli. The Italian champions are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 30-year-old out-of-favour Chelsea forward has emerged as a target for the Partenopei.
Antonio Conte wants to “take his project to the next level”, and he is eager to introduce an experienced attacker to his offensive unit. However, talks between Napoli and Chelsea are yet to intensify despite the 2024/25 Serie A winners’ keenness to secure the Englishman’s services in the summer transfer window.
Raheem Sterling and a career at a crossroads
Raheem Sterling has reached the point of no return after returning from a dreadful loan spell with Arsenal. The 30-year-old never got off the blocks at the North London club, managing only 1,143 minutes of game time in 28 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal while producing a paltry tally of one goal and five assists.
The English international has no future at Chelsea, with Enzo Maresca already sealing his fate last summer. So, it is hardly surprising that the Blues are ready to cash in on the former Manchester City winger in the summer transfer window. Sterling’s next destination may be Serie A, with Napoli among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Serie A adventure beckons?
Napoli’s interest in Raheem Sterling is understandable. The Serie A champions have been active in the market, completing over half a dozen signings in the summer transfer window. They have also bolstered their wide attacking options, with Noa Lang arriving from PSV Eindhoven.
However, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has left a gaping hole in the offensive unit at Napoli, compelling them to seek another wide attacker from the market. So, Sterling has emerged as a viable target, with intermediaries also offering his services to the Serie A club.
Antonio Conte wants to introduce an experienced attacker to his squad’s offensive unit, making Sterling an appealing target. It will be interesting to see how the talks between Napoli and Chelsea progress in the coming weeks.
