Manchester United step up interest in Idrissa Gueye
Manchester United are set to step up their interest in Metz striker Idrissa Gueye, with the Ligue 1 side placing a £17 million price on the attacker.
According to an update by Sebastien Vidal, Manchester United are eager to step up in the chase for Idrissa Gueye, the Metz striker. The 18-year-old wonderkid has attracted massive interest following his brief stint in France, with a £17 million price point being mentioned to get him out of the Ligue 1 side.
Idrissa Gueye’s career could be fast-tracked following his immense rise in a short period in France. Having signed for Metz from Generation Foot in January, he managed to score five times for the French side and helped them return to Ligue 1.
Now, the 18-year-old attacking prospect has a big chance on his hands to make the step up to one of the top clubs in the world. As per many reports, many teams are chasing him, but Sebastien Vidal mentions the interest from Manchester United.
The teenager could be viewed for their youth-focused project, which the club have been planning intricately over the last few windows. There is a certain focus on players of a younger profile to try and build for the future, as the Red Devils are now looking to bring the 18-year-old Ligue 1 wonderkid to Old Trafford.
Metz want £17 million to sell Gueye this summer, which will reflect on the performances he has produced since his January move and the growing influence in the squad. Big things are expected of him, but from a Manchester United point of view, there will be questions asked, especially if they were to spend as much as the Ligue 1 side are asking for.
Idrissa Gueye is an expensive idea for Manchester United
Leading to the summer transfer window, many reports had stated the financial constraints at Manchester United. While they have gone on to spend big on players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, they are also looking at other positions to strengthen, including a new striker. Ollie Watkins is the latest on their list, and as per the latest on the striker, Aston Villa want £60 million for the England international.
Beyond fortifying the front three, the Red Devils also have other requirements for the first team. Hence, in a restricted financial climate, it would be seen as unwise to spend around £17 million on someone as young and inexperienced as Gueye, especially when the club can realistically use those funds on other areas of their squad in this window.
