Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are looking for a €10 million discount in their pursuit of Ajax defensive sensation Jorrel Hato.

Chelsea are working hard to secure the services of Jorrel Hato. The Blues want to reinforce their backline ahead of next season and consider the Dutch youth international an ideal fit for their project.

The London club already have the green light from the player, and they have been in talks with Ajax as they look to reach an agreement on the transfer fee. According to a report from CaughtOffside, the Blues want the Dutch club to lower their demands by €10 million.

Hato has come up the ranks at Ajax. He got promoted to their first team back in 2023 and hasn’t looked back since. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but the teenager is also widely regarded as one of the best young defenders.

While the 19-year-old prefers playing at left-back, he is equally effective as a wing-back as well as in the heart of the defence. Hato still has three years left on his deal at Ajax, but he looks set for a move away this summer, amidst interest from some of the biggest clubs in England.

Chelsea are closing in on Hato’s signature

Chelsea are one of the clubs that are very keen on signing Hato. The Blues want to add more quality and depth to their backline as they look to build on the impressive start they have had under Maresca. Someone like Hato with his versatility could do wonders for them, and he could become a key figure in their team in the long run.

The Blues have been in talks with the player for some time, and they have managed to reach a verbal agreement with him on personal terms. While he had offers from two other Premier League clubs, Hato has his heart set on a move to Chelsea and is ready to sign a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

The London club are now aiming to reach an agreement with Ajax, who have set a €60 million asking price. While Maresca’s side are prepared to pay a significant fee, they hope to bring the price down to around €50 million. Hato has already informed Ajax that Chelsea is his preferred destination, which significantly increases the likelihood of the move happening.
