Tottenham make approach for Kobbie Mainoo, deal may be possible
Tottenham could sniff around for Kobbie Mainoo if his contract stalemate with Manchester United continues, as a sale could be on the cards.
According to Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Tottenham are considering making an approach for Kobbie Mainoo amid the midfielder’s uncertain contractual situation. The Englishman might be leaning towards staying with Manchester United, but the Red Devils might listen to a big offer, with Spurs among many clubs keen on securing his services.
Talks between Kobbie Mainoo’s camp and Manchester United have certainly dragged on for the best part of a year. After finishing the 2023/24 season in style, the young midfielder did not have the best of campaigns last term, as injuries and a loss in form hampered his progress.
Manchester United have continued discussing a new deal with Mainoo, and the fresh agreement has been a big subject of debate among the club’s supporters. There was an argument over his huge wage demands to pen fresh terms, and while those remain unconfirmed, the club had indicated they might sell for a big fee.
Kobbie Mainoo will have no shortage of suitors either within the Premier League or abroad, as Chelsea are among those interested. Tottenham are also keeping close tabs on his situation, as the North Londoners are now planning an approach to test the waters with Manchester United.
The Red Devils are certainly expected to quote a massive price, and given the 20-year-old has already entered the final two years of his deal, a sale could be within the realms of possibilities. Moreover, the Englishman may have to climb his way into Ruben Amorim’s thinking in the 2025/26 season, as he will want regular game time to seal his place in the England squad ahead of the World Cup next year.
Tottenham are eager to sign a midfielder
Tottenham are eager to bring in a strong midfielder who could offer them a different dimension. While someone like Kobbie Mainoo might be the answer, Thomas Frank is already looking at other options too, with the likes of Joao Palhinha, Douglas Luiz and Conor Gallagher linked with the North London club.
Whether Spurs are closer to any of those reported targets remains the question, but they are intent on bringing one of the top names this summer. Mainoo could be seen as an additional target over some formidable names, as Tottenham might view the 20-year-old Manchester United midfield sensation as a big investment for the present and future, particularly if he were available in the market.
