RB Leipzig open talks to sign Carney Chukwuemeka
RB Leipzig have opened talks with Chelsea for midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, who does not feature in Enzo Maresca’s plans.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Carney Chukwuemeka is a definitive target for RB Leipzig, with the German giants opening talks for the unwanted Chelsea midfielder. The Bundesliga side could potentially explore a move and take advantage of Chelsea’s big interest in Xavi Simons.
RB Leipzig are angling a move for an English midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka, this summer. The German side are in the market to make some important signings that help their squad in the short to medium term, and the former Chelsea star might prove to be an answer.
Chukwuemeka was one of the big additions to this young Chelsea project when their new owners took over. However, injuries and a loss in form have hampered his development severely, and steadily, he has bowed out of their project.
Enzo Maresca does not count on him in his plans going forward, as Chelsea had already planned on cashing in on the midfielder a while back. Chukwuemeka spent the last six months on loan with Borussia Dortmund, with the German giants holding talks with Chelsea over another loan deal,
As things stand, Chelsea does not want to loan him out again and would prefer an outright sale. This is where RB Leipzig have come into the picture, as they are now in talks with the Blues over a potential deal. The Bundesliga giants are ready to take further steps in the 21-year-old whizkid’s chase, as this is a deal that may have legs.
An exchange deal on the cards?
Chelsea are incidentally interested in Xavi Simons and advancing on talks over personal terms with the Dutch attacker. Lizpzig are prepared to sell the former PSG star for a reasonable fee, and might even ponder the idea of asking Chelsea to include Chukwuemeka as part of the deal.
As the deal for Simons is yet to advance, and there’s the probability ot using Chukwuemeka as a makeweight in the agreement. With Leipzig certainly interested in the 21-year-old whizkid from Chelsea, it remains to be seen whether both clubs can come to a swift agreement with or without Simons as part of the deal.
