Benjamin Lecomte set to join Fulham from Montpellier
Montpellier captain Benjamin Lecomte is reportedly on the verge of joining Fulham from Montpellier, and he will sign a two-year contract at the West London club.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Benjamin Lecomte has been the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers have been keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a shot-stopper in the summer transfer window. The 34-year-old Montpellier captain will bolster Marco Silva’s group in the coming days.
Who is Benjamin Lecomte?
Benjamin Lecomte has been among the most dependable goalkeepers in Ligue 1 for most of his long professional career thus far. A native of Paris, the Frenchman spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at Arcueil Municipal and Antony Sports before graduating from the youth division at FC Chamois Niort.
However, the 34-year-old has landed on his feet after rejoining Montpellier from AS Monaco in January 2023. But while Lecomte has been reliable between the sticks for La Paillade, he could not stop his team from suffering relegation from Ligue 1.
The French goalkeeper has turned out over 150 times thus far for Montpellier while keeping 45 clean sheets and conceding 213 goals. However, Lecomte’s spell with Montpellier will end in the summer transfer window, and an adventure in the Premier League is on the horizon, with Fulham on the verge of securing his services.
London calling?
Fulham’s interest in Benjamin Lecomte is understandable. The Cottagers have been keen on adding a top-notch backup goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, with Marco Silva eager to land an upgrade on Steven Benda. Lecomte will be that player, with Fulham on the cusp of securing his services in the coming days.
The 34-year-old Frenchman has left Montpellier’s pre-season camp to seal his summer move to Fulham. Lecomte will be the West London club’s first signing of the summer transfer window, with Silva hoping the upcoming move can kick-start a run of deals after a slow start thus far.
Recent reports have suggested that the Cottagers are closing in on joining Romulo, and they must intensify their efforts to reinforce their first-team squad before the 2025/26 season begins next month.
