Manchester United fear missing out on Morten Hjulmand
Manchester United’s plans to sign a top-draw midfielder could have hit a snag as they fear landing key target Morten Hjulmand due to his price.
According to Give Me Sport, Manchester United fear losing out on key midfield target and Ruben Amorim ‘favourite’ Morten Hjulmand. The Danis midfielder is seen as a top addition by the Red Devils, but a £70 million release clause, along with Sporting CP’s stance on not negotiating on the price, could prove problematic.
Manchester United finally got the key signing of Bryan Mbeumo over the line after protracted negotiations. The Red Devils wanted the Cameroonian international from the early stages of the window, and now Ruben Amorim will feel he has solid options for his frontline, with the club now looking for a striker.
Benjamin Sesko is a target, while Nicolas Jackson is also looked at as an option, as Amorim wants to bring a different idea to his front three. Signing a new No.9 will be a costly affair, irrespective of which name ends up joining the Red Devils, which may come to hamper their budgets for other positions.
Manchester United are keen to land a new midfielder this summer, as there are some shortages in that area. For instance, Christian Eriksen has left, while there are some question marks over Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo performing consistently throughout the season.
Morten Hjulmand is a key target for Manchester United, and the midfielder had been close to joining Juventus, but so far, no deal has been agreed for the Dane. The Red Devils still have a window of opportunity to get a deal in place, but there are big hurdles ahead.
The Dane is also a target for Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur. The latter are ready to sell Yves Bissouma this summer, paving the way for Hjulmand to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. On the other hand, Barcelona do not necessarily need a midfielder but remain on the hunt for market opportunities.
Manchester United could miss out on Hjulmand
Hjulmand has a £70 million release clause written in his Sporting CP contract, and with the Portuguese club agreeing to sell star striker Viktor Gyokeres, they are unlikely to be desperate to make another big sale. Hence, they are unlikely to want to negotiate on his asking price and will point suitors towards the release clause in his contract.
Hence, Manchester United could potentially miss out on the £70 million-rated Amorim favourite, as he is a midfielder the current manager knows well from his time at Sporting CP. The Red Devils are already looking at Gabriel Sara of Galatasaray as a potential option, and should Sporting CP fail to make inroads in the Hjulmand chase, they will move on to alternative targets.
