Liverpool in talks with Rangers over Owen Beck deal
Scottish giants Rangers are reportedly interested in signing 22-year-old Welsh left-back Owen Beck from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Owen Beck is the subject of interest from Rangers. The Scottish giants are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a left-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old Liverpool whizkid has emerged as a target for the Light Blues.
The Gers are in talks with Liverpool over a possible deal for the Welshman, with the Merseyside outfit demanding around £10 million. However, a move to Derby County may be on the cards, with John Percy of the Daily Telegraph suggesting the EFL Championship outfit will secure his services on loan in the summer transfer window.
Who is Owen Beck?
Owen Beck is one of several highly-rated academy graduates to struggle to make his mark in the first-team squad. His compatriot Ben Doak also falls in the same category, and Beck has embarked on five loan spells since July 2022 while managing only three appearances thus far for the Merseyside outfit.
However, Beck’s stock in the market is high, even though he has yet to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Premier League club. Scottish giants Rangers and EFL Championship club Derby County are among the prospective suitors vying for the Welsh full-back’s signature in the summer transfer window.
What next?
Rangers’ interest in Owen Beck is understandable. The Scottish giants have several left-backs in their first-team squad, but Russell Martin wants to mould the group in his image. Interestingly, the young full-back is keen on joining Liverpool as he looks to sort out his next move after missing the trip to Asia for Liverpool’s pre-season campaign.
However, Rangers are hesitant to fork out £10 million to sign the Welshman from Liverpool in the summer transfer window. But with the two parties keen on a union, the Scottish giants are ready to sell players to fund a deal worth £10 million to sign the youngster from Liverpool. However, it is unclear if Rangers can land Beck despite ramping up the talks with Liverpool.
With John Percy of the Daily Telegraph suggesting the 22-year-old Welsh full-back is closing in on joining Derby County on loan, another temporary exit from Liverpool may be on the cards for him instead of joining Rangers.
