Villarreal are ready to challenge the likes of Newcastle United and others in pursuit of Axel Disasi as they are readying a loan bid for the defender.

According to L’Equipe, Villarreal are plotting to make a loan bid for Chelsea’s unwanted defender Axel Disasi. The 27-year-old does not have a future at Stamford Bridge, with the Spanish side now eager to lure him in, but faces the challenge of beating the likes of Newcastle United, among others.

Axel Disasi might be out of Chelsea’s plans for the upcoming season and beyond, but for many other clubs, he could be a big enough opportunity to shore up their backline. The French defender, 27, can play centrally or even as a right-back, thus allowing many coaches to use him tactically in their respective systems.

After two seasons at Stamford Bridge, it’s become abundantly clear that Chelsea are not keen to continue with him, as a loan spell with Aston Villa barely produced anything of note. Newcastle United are one of the interested parties for Disasi, as Eddie Howe might view his versatility as a big weapon to shore up his defence.

Whether the magpies are serious about this pursuit remains to be seen, although there’s already big competition in place. The report clearly states the prospect of ambitious Saudi Arabian side Neom FC angling for a move, and have engaged in talks for the defender.

Villarreal are also interested in the defender as they are eager to build a competitive squad for their campaign ahead, which involves Champions League football. The Spanish side are now willing to present a loan bid to Chelsea for their 27-year-old defensive flop, and it remains to be seen whether that will be enough.

Chelsea prefers an outright sale of Axel Disasi

Chelsea do have the luxury of sending Disasi on another loan if it comes with a credible buy option, but they reportedly prefer an outright sale of the defender. Hence, Villarreal may face a big task in convincing the London giants to loan him the Frenchman.

Hence, sides like Neom FC could potentially make a good offer to sign the Frenchman for their project. So, Villarreal might not have a chance in this case, as they may have to put forward a compelling offer for the permanent signing of Disasi or move on to another target.
