Louie Barry poised to complete Sheffield United switch

Aston Villa attacking prospect Louie Barry is reportedly inching closer to joining EFL Championship club Sheffield United, with the 22-year-old not in Unai Emery’s plans.

According to an update by French journalist Sebastien Vidal, Louie Barry is the subject of interest from Sheffield United. The Blades are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a versatile attacker. So, the 22-year-old Aston Villa prospect has emerged as a target for the EFL Championship outfit.

The deal should see the light of day this week, and the Englishman will reunite with Ruben Selles at Bramall Lane. While Barry was closing in on joining Hull City a few weeks ago, the move collapsed earlier this month.

Louie Barry has had to bide his time since joining Aston Villa from Barcelona in January 2020. The 22-year-old was among the most highly-rated attacking prospects in his homeland during his time with West Bromwich Albion, and he earned a move to Barcelona in July 2019. However, he had to leave Barcelona after only six months, with Aston Villa securing his services.

Since then, Barry has embarked on half a dozen loan spells away from the West Midlands club: Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons, Salford City, and two stints with Stockport County. The English whizkid was decent in the 2024/25 season, contributing to 19 goals in 24 outings across all competitions by finding the back of the net 16 times and providing three assists.

Louie Barry has no future at Aston Villa, with Unai Emery not including the highly-rated attacking prospect in his plans for the short and long-term future. Widespread reports suggested the former Barcelona wonderkid was closing in on joining Hully City. However, the move has collapsed after the talks did not reach the desired conclusion.

Instead, the 22-year-old Englishman is inching closer to joining Sheffield United.
