Liverpool hold talks with agents of Malick Fofana

Liverpool have started making moves as they look to beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa to the signature of Olympique Lyon sensation Malick Fofana.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Malick Fofana and have held talks with his agents as they look to beat the competition. While he is a key figure in the Olympique Lyon first team, their financial situation could open the door for a potential departure.

Fofana came up the ranks at KAA Gent and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining Lyon at the start of 2024. The 20-year-old Belgian winger has only gone from strength to strength since.

Last season, he was involved in a total of 41 matches, and he ended up contributing towards 17 goals. While he prefers playing on the left flank, the youngster is capable enough to feature anywhere in attack.

His performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe. While he still has three years left on his deal at Lyon and is an integral part of their first-team setup, his future has become a big talking point.

With no shortage of interest in his signature, the French giants are reportedly ready to cash in on him as it could help them balance their books. They are in a very difficult financial situation, and the funds raised from his departure could do wonders for them.

Premier League giants to battle for Fofana

As a result, Lyon are ready to evaluate incoming offers and have set an asking price of around €50-60 million as they need to pay 20% of the sale to his former club Gent. Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa are three Premier League clubs who have been keeping a close eye on him.

Unai Emery’s team seek more quality in the final third, and he is someone who loves to work with versatile players. Fofana could be just the perfect signing for him.

While Villa are considering making a move, Chelsea and Arsenal are both looking to add more quality on the flanks. The Gunners need a new left-winger who can battle with Gabriel Martinelli for a spot in the starting XI.

As far as the Blues are concerned, they could part ways with quite a few of their forwards in the coming weeks, and Fofana could be an ideal replacement. They can certainly be a more logical option for the forward as they offer a well-structured environment for his development.

Liverpool could beat the competition

Liverpool have entered the race for his signature, and they are looking to beat all three rival clubs to his signature. The Reds are looking at him as an alternative option to reinforce their attack. They have already held talks with his agents to learn more about a potential move.

While they are yet to table an offer, they could soon make a move as Luis Diaz closes in on a move to Bayern Munich. If the Colombian international leaves, Fofana could replace him.
