Manchester United closing in on signing Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are rumoured to be closing in on an agreement with Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres, although the striker wants Arsenal move.

According to SIC Noticias, Manchester United are threatening Arsenal’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres. The report claims that the Red Devils are not closing in on an agreement with Spotting CP for the Swedish striker, although the attacker is keen to make his move to the Gunners at all costs.

Manchester United’s need for a new striker is well-known, and so is their interest in Viktor Gyokeres. The forward trained under Ruben Amorim for the best part of the last two seasons, and the manager had an obvious wish to reunite with the Swede at Old Trafford.

Arsenal have been the main suitor for the Swede, and last Sunday, they struck €73.5 million agreement in principle with Sporting CP over a move for Gyokeres. The striker is pencilled in to join the Gunners sooner rather than later, but the deal has dragged on since the update last weekend.

Manchester United were ready to outbid Arsenal for Gyokeres before that agreement in principle for €73.5 million. However, despite their interest, the striker is keen to make the switch to the Gunners, and there have been reports claiming Arsenal’s move could collapse due to their failure to close an agreement with Sporting CP.

Meanwhile, the main story from Portugal over the weekend is about Manchester United, rumoured to be closing in on an agreement with Sporting CP for the Swede. In theory, the Red Devils can potentially bridge the gap that Arsenal are currently not willing to budge on, and find an agreement on financials with the Portuguese side to sign the 27-year-old goal machine.

Viktor Gyokeres is not keen on a Manchester United switch

Manchester United’s clear need for a striker has not excited Gyokeres, if widespread reports are to be believed. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Swede’s desire to join only Arsenal and potentially snub other overtures. Hence, even if the Red Devils agree on a fee with Sporting CP, they may not move forward with the signing without the striker’s approval.

As for Arsenal, they are the favourites to land Gyokeres despite the deal being dragged out for over a week now. Reports have clearly stated that only a small matter of agreeing on the structure of a part of the add-ons remains before they can find an agreement. With the Gunners’ squad already leaving for their pre-season tour to Asia, should they finalise a move for the 27-year-old goal machine, he could join them there soon.
