Everton ready to make improved offer to sign Douglas Luiz
Everton will reportedly aim to beat West Ham United to 27-year-old Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz after submitting an improved bid to sign the Brazilian international.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Douglas Luiz is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Juventus midfielder has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.
The Toffees have submitted an improved bid to sign the former Aston Villa midfielder, offering a package worth €35 million, including add-ons. However, Juventus will demand a guaranteed fee of €35 million to part ways with Luiz. The Serie A giants are open to sanctioning a loan exit with a purchase obligation, with West Ham United also keen on signing him in the summer transfer window.
Douglas Luiz and his career-changing move
Douglas Luiz has been a shell of the dominant midfielder from his Aston Villa days since joining Juventus last summer. The 27-year-old arrived at the Allianz Stadium with a burgeoning reputation, having been a world-class performer for Aston Villa. However, poor form and fitness issues have blighted his progress and fortunes.
The Brazilian midfielder has not even managed 1,000 minutes of game time across 27 outings thus far for Juventus. However, Luiz’s stock in the market remains high, and a return to the Premier League may be on the cards. Everton and West Ham United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Swift Premier League return on the horizon?
Everton’s interest in Douglas Luiz is understandable. The Toffees are keen on signing a midfielder this summer after parting ways with Abdoulaye Doucoure as a free agent. So, the Juventus misfit has emerged as a viable target for Everton, with the Merseyside club already submitting one bid to sign him. However, they have returned with an improved proposal, offering a package worth €35 million, including add-ons.
As for West Ham United, Carlos Soler and Guido Rodriguez were dreadful in the 2024/25 season, and the former has returned to Paris Saint-Germain after his loan spell ended. In addition, Tomas Soucek faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium. So, Luiz is an option worth considering for West Ham.
Meanwhile, Juventus will be open to sanctioning a loan deal with a purchase obligation clause. However, the Bianconeri will demand a guaranteed payment of €35 million. So, Everton may not be far off the Serie A club’s valuation as they look to beat West Ham to his signature.
