Arsenal move for Viktor Gyokeres could collapse

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres’ proposed move to Premier League giants Arsenal is on the verge of collapsing.

Viktor Gyokeres is keen on parting ways with Sporting CP this summer. The Swedish international is looking to take the next step in his career, and Arsenal have emerged as a potential destination for him.

The Gunners have been working very hard to secure his services, but according to a report from A Bola, Gyokeres’ move to the North London club could collapse as both clubs might not reach a common ground on the transfer fee.

Gyokeres has been on fire since joining Sporting from Coventry City back in 2023. Over the last two seasons, he has featured in a total of 102 matches for the Portuguese giants and has contributed towards 125 goals (97 goals, 28 assists).

The 27-year-old striker’s sensational performances have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs. While some of the biggest clubs in Europe have been linked with the Swedish striker, Arsenal have been the front-runners for his signature for some time.

The North London club are looking for a proven goal scorer who can help them end their wait for the league title. Mikel Arteta considers Gyokeres the ideal fit for his system, and Andrea Berta has been working hard to strike a deal with Sporting.

Gyokeres might not get his long-awaited Arsenal move

The Gunners already have the green light from the player’s end as he is keen on joining them. While he still has three years left on his deal, the Swedish international is pushing for an exit and has decided against returning to the club for pre-season.

Despite the player’s desire to make the move, Arsenal haven’t been able to reach an agreement with Sporting. They initially thought of securing his services in a deal worth between €60–70 million because of a promise made to the player by Sporting’s former sporting director.

As a result, they proposed an offer worth €55 million plus €10 million add-ons back in June. However, it was considered way too low by the Portuguese giants, who are holding out on their asking price of €80 million. They have no intentions of lowering their demands, and Arsenal haven’t shown any signs of meeting their demands.

There is a serious possibility that they might never reach that big a fee for the 27-year-old. As a result, Gyokeres’ potential move to Arsenal could collapse, and even the player’s family has realised that a move to North London might not go through.
