Adam Wharton ready to wait for Liverpool move for another season

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Adam Wharton is all set to continue at Crystal Palace for another season.

Adam Wharton seems to have made a decision on his future. The English international is all set to continue at Selhurst Park for another season, amidst interest from Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

According to a report from The Sun, Wharton has put his potential move to the Merseyside club on hold for 12 months. While Tottenham were looking to hijack the deal, they will also have to wait until next summer to try their luck.

The 21-year-old came up the ranks at Blackburn and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining Crystal Palace at the start of 2024. The Eagles forked out £18 million and promised a 15% sell-on clause to bring him to the club.

Wharton has only gone from strength to strength since joining Oliver Glasner’s team. Thanks to his impressive performances, he even broke into the England squad for Euro 2024. While the young defensive midfielder did spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines last season, he is already a key figure in their team.

The Eagles are aware that they could lose out on Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze; as a result, they have no interest in selling Wharton this summer. With his contract running until 2029, they are in a very comfortable position and will demand a fortune if a club comes knocking.

Premier League giants will have to wait to sign Wharton

Tottenham and Liverpool are two clubs that are keen on his signature. Both clubs have been keeping a close eye on his performances and are well aware of his massive potential. He could certainly be a great addition to their squads.

While he will have to battle for a place in the starting XI at Anfield, he could be an upgrade on the current options for Thomas Frank’s team. The Reds have been working on a potential transfer, but they do have other priorities this summer.

Meanwhile, Spurs have been attempting to hijack the deal, believing Wharton could be the perfect fit for their project. However, the North London club have suffered a setback as the 21-year-old has decided to stay at Palace for another season.

While this is a blow for Tottenham, it could be seen as a boost for Liverpool. Having already spent heavily this summer and with more major moves planned, the Reds have limited funds available. As a result, the player’s decision to remain at his current club makes Arne Slot’s side favourites to land him next summer.
