Tottenham looking to steal a march on PSG in Illia Zabarnyi race
Thomas Frank’s Tottenham are reportedly looking to hijack PSG’s move for Bournemouth defensive mainstay Illia Zabarnyi.
According to a report from talkSPORT, Tottenham have entered the race for the signature of Illia Zabarnyi, and they are all set to rival Champions League winners PSG. The North London club seek more quality at the back and consider the Bournemouth mainstay as an ideal fit for their system.
Zabarnyi came up the ranks at Dynamo Kyiv, and he made a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining the Cherries at the start of 2023. The 22-year-old centre-back has been a consistent performer for them, and his work has not gone unnoticed.
PSG are keen on Illia Zabarnyi
While Zabarnyi still has four years left on his deal at the club, his future has become a massive talking point. Paris Saint-Germain are one of the clubs that are keen on acquiring his services. Luis Enrique, who recently guided the French giants to their first-ever UEFA Champions League title, is looking for more quality and depth at the back.
Illia Zabarnyi considers the Ukrainian defender an ideal fit for his system and the club’s project. They have been in talks to sign him for some time. They reportedly had a £55 million (€65 million) offer turned down by Bournemouth last summer, but still remain keen on his signature.
The player seems to be very interested in a move to Paris. However, PSG first need to agree on a deal with the Cherries before things can move ahead. Having already sold his defensive partner Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid in a deal worth £50 million (€59 million), they are under no pressure to sell Zabarnyi.
Bournemouth want €70 million for Zabarnyi
With Illia Zabaynyi’s contract running until 2029, they want around €70 million (including add-ons) to let go of one of their mainstays, as reported by Luca Bendoni. With PSG yet to strike a deal with Bournemouth, Tottenham have entered the race and are looking to steal a march on the French giants.
Thomas Frank has already made multiple additions to his backline, but he is still looking for more quality. He wants someone who can compete with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven for a place in the starting XI. Illia Zabarnyi is an ideal candidate for them, and they have already registered interest in him.
Bendoni has suggested that Spurs are ready to meet Bournemouth’s demands; as a result, if PSG do not go ahead with the move, the North London club can certainly secure the 22-year-old’s services this summer.
