Tottenham eyeing Maxence Lacroix swoop
Tottenham Hotspur may reportedly look to sign 25-year-old French defender Maxence Lacroix from fellow London club Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by French outlet L’Equipe, Maxence Lacroix is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old Crystal Palace defender has emerged as a target for the North London club.
Maxence Lacroix and his career so far
Maxence Lacroix has established himself as one of the most underrated defenders in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from VfL Wolfsburg in a deal worth £18 million last summer. A native of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, the Frenchman spent his formative years in his homeland.
The 25-year-old passed through the academies at AS Limeyrat Les Croquants, ES Montignac, FC Thenon Limeyrat Fossemagne, and Trélissac FC before graduating from the youth division at FC Sochaux. However, Lacroix rose in prominence during his spell with VfL Wolfsburg before continuing his progress at Crystal Palace last season.
The French defender has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with one goal and one assist. Meanwhile, Lacroix’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Tottenham Hotspur will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Move across London on the cards?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Maxence Lacroix is somewhat perplexing but understandable. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a centre-back this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Cristian Romero’s long-term future. Several candidates, including Illia Zabarnyi, have emerged on Tottenham’s radar, with Lacroix also a viable target.
However, the North London outfit will face stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund and Serie A clubs for the Frenchman’s signature in the summer transfer window, with the Bundesliga outfit already submitting an enquiry. Meanwhile, it is unclear if Crystal Palace will be open to accepting bids to part ways with Lacroix amid uncertainties surrounding Marc Guehi’s long-term future.
Interestingly, Guehi is also a target for Tottenham, with other Premier League clubs also keen on signing him in the summer transfer window. As for Lacroix, the event of his sale should lead to Crystal Palace making a significant profit on the £18 million they paid to sign the 25-year-old French defender last summer.
