Marcus Rashford set to join Barcelona, details of deal revealed

Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford is set to join Barcelona after the two clubs agreed on a €35 million deal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Marcus Rashford is all set to part ways with Manchester United and join Barcelona in the coming days. All parties involved have reached a verbal agreement, and the Catalan giants are already planning for his medical in the coming days.

Rashford has been an integral part of the Manchester United setup since breaking into their first team back in 2016. Despite struggling for form, he was a regular feature in their XI under Erik ten Hag. However, a lot changed following the arrival of Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese manager questioned his work ethic and his commitment to training. Following a rift between the two, he was dropped from the squad before securing a loan move to Aston Villa mid-way through last season.

He had an impressive spell under Unai Emery, and the Birmingham-based club did want to secure his services permanently, but things didn’t go according to plan for them. While he is back at Old Trafford, the 27-year-old clearly has no future under Amorim.

Rashford secures United exit

As a result, the player has been on the lookout for a new club, and United are also open to his departure as long as their demands are met. Barcelona emerged as a potential destination for the English international as the Spanish club were looking for more quality on the left flank.

Luis Diaz was their priority target, but with him closing in on a move to Bayern Munich, they decided to shift their entire focus to Rashford. After long-drawn negotiations with the Red Devils, they finally have a verbal agreement in principle to sign the United graduate.

Barcelona sign Rashford on loan with a buy option

The Manchester-based giants wanted a permanent deal, but they have settled for a loan move with a buy-option. According to Luis Rojo, the English international will be joining them on a season-long loan deal with a €35 million option to make the move permanent.

The deal is being finalised today, and then United will give the player the green light to travel to Spain for his medical. Rashford was eager to join the Catalan giants; as a result, personal terms were never really a problem. He will not only compete with Raphinha for a place in the XI, but the 27-year-old could even cover for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
