Chelsea ready to cash in on Alfie Gilchrist, price tag set

Chelsea are open to selling homegrown talent Alfie Gilchrist amid heavy interest from a host of Championship clubs this summer.

According to a report by talkSPORT, Chelsea are set to court offers for homegrown talent Alfie Gilchrist. The right-back spent the previous campaign on loan at Sheffield United and has now generated big interest from many Championship sides, as the Blues are only interested in an outright sale at £5 million.

Chelsea are ready to sell some of their fringe players, particularly those who they do not see a future with. Alfie Gilchrist falls firmly into that category of stars, with the young right-back not part of the club’s thinking for the future, despite a promising time on loan last season.

Gilchrist did have a good period with Chelsea during the 2023/24 season, featuring 17 times across all competitions. However, the Blues chose to loan him out to Sheffield United last summer, and he went on to play regularly for the Blades, with 32 appearances across all competitions, including 30 in the league.

He is not deemed ready for the Premier League yet despite a decent amount of experience under his belt in terms of senior football. That has been determined by the lack of interest from top-flight sides; however, there is considerable admiration from the Championship with Derby County, Middlesbrough, Watford, and Blackburn Rovers all showing an interest.

Chelsea are demanding £5 million to sell the 21-year-old homegrown prospect, which may sound reasonable to his suitors, given Gilchrist has entered the final year of his deal at Stamford Bridge. It remains to be seen whether some of those suitors cement their interest with a bid in the coming period, as the right-back is destined to part ways with the Blues.

Chelsea are making summer plans

Despite making a considerable outlay on incomings, Chelsea have also sold Noni Madueke, among others, this summer. They are keen on a new goalkeeper as links to Mike Maignan persist after a failed move earlier in the summer.

Chelsea are also keen to offload some of their stars, including Joao Felix, while some of their current defenders are also in with the possibility of a departure. Several other players may arrive this summer, including another attacker, while the club may also focus on a new keeper and defenders.
