West Ham United win race to sign Kyle Walker-Peters after Besiktas decision, Tottenham were also in the chase

West Ham United have acted upon their interest in Kyle Walker-Peters and reached an agreement after a move to Besiktas collapsed.

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United are set to sign free agent Kyle Walker-Peters following his departure from Southampton. The versatile full-back was close to joining Besiktas, although complications in that move and a subsequent collapse allowed The Hammers to swoop in for the 28-year-old Englishman.

Kyle Walker-Peters was probably one of the few players from relegated sides that the top-flight teams kept close tabs on. The versatile defender, capable of playing both full-back roles, did not renew with Southampton as his deal there expired at the end of the season.

Walker-Peters wants to keep playing at the top level and was not keen on returning to the Championship with Southampton. He had no shortage of interest from Premier League sides, although none were there to make concrete offers. TBR confirmed that Tottenham were keen on their former star, as the club were eager to bring in more defensive cover for the right-back slot.

Walker-Peters was keen on a switch to Spurs, but no move materialised to north London. However, in the last few days, following an offer from Besiktas, the 28-year-old Englishman was close to joining the Turkish team. However, the move collapsed after Besiktas informed that Walker-Peters had asked for multiple postponements towards making a move, as the Turkish side had scheduled medicals.

Despite having an agreement in principle, Besiktas announced that the transfer had collapsed. The Turkish giants secretly thought that the 28-year-old Englishman was buying more time in anticipation of fresh offers from Premier League sides, and it came from West Ham United.

West Ham to sign Kyle Walker-Peters

West Ham have taken advantage of the 28-year-old Englishman’s situation and the failed move to Besiktas to agree a deal with him. Walker-Peters will now complete the formalities at the London Stadium and sign a three-year deal until 2028.

The addition is seen as essential, as Graham Potter’s side have lost a host of their full-backs in Aaron Cresswell and Vladimir Coufal after their contracts expire, while Emerson Palmieri is also expected to leave. Hence, those departures leave the Hammers short in the full-back roles, as Walker-Peters’ ability to play both sides gives Potter big options ahead of the new season.
