Tottenham rule out Yoane Wissa move, Brentford unwilling to sell
Tottenham Hotspur will not pursue a deal to sign 28-year-old DR Congo international Yoane Wissa from Brentford in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Yoane Wissa is no longer the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites have been keen on signing the Brentford striker for several weeks. However, the North London giants have decided against pursuing a deal for the DR Congo international in the summer transfer window.
While Tottenham’s decision should ideally have cleared the path for Newcastle United, the Magpies may not secure Wissa’s services either. A report by talkSPORT has suggested that Brentford will reject all offers to sell the French-born attacker after agreeing to sell Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.
The rise of Yoane Wissa at Brentford
Yoane Wissa has gone from strength to strength since joining Brentford from FC Lorient in August 2021. The 28-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last four years, establishing himself as one of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League. He was exceptional in the 2024/25 campaign, in particular, forging one of the best offensive partnerships in the top flight alongside Bryan Mbeumo.
The DR Congo international contributed to 25 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring 20 times and providing five assists. Meanwhile, Wissa’s exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs. Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have been among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Newcastle United’s interest in Yoane Wissa is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a versatile attacker after parting ways with Callum Wilson as a free agent. So, the Brentford striker has emerged as a viable target, with his versatility making him the ideal foil for Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, and Anthony Elanga.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, Dominic Solanke endured a frustrating debut season with the North London club, with fitness issues hampering him. So, Wissa was an option worth considering for Tottenham. However, the Lilywhites have ruled out a summer move for the French-born attacker.
Despite Tottenham’s decision, Newcastle United will not get a clear run at the 28-year-old DR Congo international, with Brentford ready to reject all offers. The Magpies must thus look elsewhere for a new striker this summer.
