Real Madrid prepared to pay €100 million to sign Rodri
Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old Spanish international Rodri from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Rodri is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 29-year-old Manchester City star has emerged as a target for Los Blancos.
The FIFA Club World Cup semi-finalists “really like” the Spaniard, but they know it will be difficult to sign him from Manchester City. Nevertheless, Real Madrid may attempt to secure the former Atletico Madrid midfielder’s signature by submitting a bid worth around €100 million in the summer transfer window.
Rodri and his rise at Manchester City
Rodri has established himself as one of the best players in the world since joining Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in July 2019. The 29-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last half a dozen years. However, he approaches the 2025/26 season looking to get back to his best after missing most of the 2024/25 campaign with a long-term knee injury.
The Spanish international showed his quality at the FIFA Club World Cup, but he is yet to attain complete fitness. Meanwhile, the experienced midfielder has turned out over 250 times thus far for Manchester City while chipping in with 26 goals and 32 assists. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid.
What next?
Rodri has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time. The continued interest in the Manchester City midfielder is understandable, considering Toni Kroos has left a gaping hole in the midfield unit at the Santiago Bernabeu. In addition, Luka Modric has left Real Madrid as a free agent and completed a Bosman move to AC Milan.
So, Xabi Alonso needs a midfielder who can provide the creative impetus from the middle of the park. The Manchester City midfielder has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos ready to fork out €100 million to secure his services. However, the Premier League giants do not wish to part ways with the Spaniard and will likely charge a premium to sell him.
Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Manchester City will aim to tie Rodri to a new contract in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can convince Manchester City to part ways with the Spanish international for a deal worth around €100 million.
