Newcastle United poised to make bid to sign Yoane Wissa
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly all set to make an offer for Tottenham attacking target Yoane Wissa this summer.
According to Lyall Thomas, Newcastle United are in the market for a new number nine, and they have their eyes set on Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. They are gearing up to make a bid for the DR Congo international in the coming days.
Wissa has been a part of the Bees’ first-team setup since 2021. The 28-year-old has only gone from strength to strength over the years, and of late, he has been an integral part of their plans. Last season, he was on fire.
The player was involved in a total of 39 games across competitions and ended up contributing towards 25 goals (20 goals, 5 assists). His performances did not go unnoticed as Tottenham and Newcastle are two clubs that are keen on signing him this summer.
While the North London club did have Yoane Wissa quite high on their wishlist, their interest in him has dropped a touch ever since they secured the services of Mohammed Kudus. However, the Magpies are very much in the race for his signature.
Newcastle United set to focus on Wissa
Newcastle United are working hard to ensure Alexander Isak continues at the club, and at the same time, they are also looking to sign another top striker to support him. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike has been at the top of their wishlist, and they have been working on a potential transfer for some time.
While they even submitted a club record £70 million bid, the German club have turned it down. With Liverpool pushing for the French striker’s signature, the Magpies are aware that they could miss out on him. As a result, they have started looking at alternatives.
Yoane Wissa is considered an ideal fit for them. He is a proven Premier League star, and with just a year left on his deal, they can certainly try to prise him away from Brentford. Newcastle are gearing up to make an offer for the 28-year-old.
If the Tyneside club manage to secure his services, it could complicate things for Manchester United, who are pushing for Bryan Mbeumo’s signature. Brentford might not let both of them leave in the same transfer window.
