Newcastle United eye Benjamin Sesko deal, player open to move

Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig after losing the battle to land Hugo Ekitike.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old RB Leipzig centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.

Newcastle United wanted to sign Hugo Ekitike from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. However, with the French striker preferring Liverpool as his next destination, the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners have set their sights on Sesko. The young striker is mulling over moving to St. James’ Park after failing to secure his desired switch to Arsenal.

Benjamin Sesko and his Bundesliga bull run

Benjamin Sesko has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in July 2023. The 22-year-old took some time to get going at the Red Bull Arena but has not looked back since establishing a foothold as a regular starter.

The Slovenian international was solid in the 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 27 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 21 times and providing six assists. Meanwhile, Sesko’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Newcastle United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

What next?

Benjamin Sesko preferred to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window. However, the North London outfit will not sign the RB Leipzig striker as they inch closer to landing Viktor Gyokeres. So, Newcastle United will have a clear run at securing his services, with the player mulling over moving to St. James’ Park.

The Magpies have been keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window after parting ways with Callum Wilson as a free agent. In addition, Alexander Isak’s long-term future is uncertain, even though Newcastle United will fight tooth and nail to keep him at St. James’ Park amid his links with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig’s price tag to sell Sesko is high, with the Bundesliga outfit demanding €90 million to part ways with the 22-year-old Slovenian international. So, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United will break the bank to sign the highly-rated striker in the summer transfer window.
