Luton Town set to sign Josh Keeley
Luton Town are set to sign Josh Keeley from Tottenham Hotspur after the keeper impressed with fellow League One side Leyton Orient.
According to The Standard, Josh Keeley is set for a switch to Luton Town and will make his return to League One football. Last season, the 22-year-old spent time at Leyton Orient to good effect, as the Hatters are looking to use his experience in the division for a push to get promoted back into the Championship.
It was only a season ago that Luton Town impressed many with their foray in the Premier League, in which they eventually suffered relegation. Last season, they were expected to fight hard to probably gain an immediate promotion back to the top flight, but everything went against them.
Instead, Luton Town suffered another relegation, this time to League One, as they are now determined to do better and gain an entry back into the Championship. Hence, they are looking for smart signings in the market, and may have stumbled upon one in the form of Tottenham goalkeeper Josh Keeley.
Keeley rose to prominence last season during his loan spell at fellow League One club Leyton Orient. He kept a club-record seven consecutive Clean sheets across all competitions, while also being awarded the goal of the season accolade for his 99th-minute equaliser against Oldham in the FA Cup.
He was also named the Supporters’ Club Young Player of the Year, and that certainly reflects on his performances. Luton Town are ironing out the final details of the transfer with the 22-year-old whizkid, which does point towards a permanent transfer.
Tottenham ready tio sell Josh Keeley
Tottenham may not have come up with the idea of selling Keely in this window, but circumstances may have forced them into a decision. It appears the 22-year-old whizkid has failed to agree on a new deal with Spurs, and his current contract expires in 2027. The North Londoners feel a sale at this point is the best decision for all parties concerned.
As for their goalkeeping department, Spurs are well-stocked in the position, and they barely even considered involving Keeley in their first team plans. As for Luton Town, they will get a keeper, well-versed with League One, and will want to put in another top-notch display in the season ahead to possibly earn another move to a higher level.
