Everton make offer to sign Douglas Luiz on loan from Juventus

Everton, Aston Villa, and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Serie A club Juventus this summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Douglas Luiz is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees have submitted their bid to sign the Juventus midfielder on a loan deal, with the Serie A giants demanding a package worth €35 million, including the loan fee. Meanwhile, Aston Villa and West Ham United are also keen on signing the Brazilian international, with the two Premier League clubs preparing their proposals to secure his services.

Douglas Luiz and his Serie A struggles

Douglas Luiz has been a liability for Juventus since arriving from Aston Villa last summer. The 27-year-old arrived at the Allianz Stadium after an exceptional spell with the West Midlands outfit. However, poor form and fitness issues have meant that he has barely made his mark for the Bianconeri.

The Brazilian international has not even managed 1,000 minutes of game time across 27 outings thus far for Juventus. However, Luiz’s stock in the market remains high, and a return to the Premier League may be on the cards. Everton, Aston Villa, and West Ham United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Luiz makes sense. The Toffees are keen on signing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window after parting ways with Abdoulaye Doucoure as a free agent. In addition, Idrissa Gueye is in the twilight of his career. So, Luiz is a viable target for Everton, with the Merseyside outfit submitting a loan bid to secure his services.

Meanwhile, West Ham United’s interest in Douglas Luiz is understandable. Guido Rodriguez was underwhelming in his debut season with the East London club, and Carlos Soler has returned to Paris Saint-Germain after a dreadful loan stint. In addition, Tomas Soucek faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium. So, Luiz is an option worth considering for West Ham, with the Hammers preparing their proposal to secure his services.

As for Aston Villa, it is unclear why the West Midlands outfit might want to re-sign Luiz. Unai Emery has a stacked midfield unit, and he needs new attackers for the first-team squad. Nevertheless, Luiz is a target for the Villans. Meanwhile, Juventus will demand a package worth €35 million, including the loan fee, to part ways with the former Aston Villa midfielder.

It is unclear how much Everton offered to sign the 27-year-old Brazilian international. However, with Aston Villa and West Ham also preparing their bids to secure Luiz’s services, his short spell in Serie A should end soon.
